Scriptline, LLC · Last updated: August 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Scriptline, LLC ("Scriptline," "we," "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Scriptline website and browser-based screenwriting application, together with related software and services (the "Service"). Scriptline does not currently offer a mobile application; if we release one, we will update this Policy before it collects any information. Your use of the Service is also governed by our Terms of Service.
Short version: we collect what we need to run your account, bill you, and operate the Service. Your screenplays are yours. We don't sell your personal information. You can access, export, or delete your data.
1.Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information — name, email address, password (hashed), and plan. (Source: you, at sign-up.)
- Billing information — subscription status, transaction history, and partial card details. Payment card processing is handled by Stripe; Scriptline does not receive or store full payment card numbers. (Source: you / Stripe.)
- Your Content — screenplays, scene cards, notes, and settings you create in the Service. (Source: you.)
- Usage & device data — log data, IP address, browser/device type, pages viewed, and feature usage. (Source: collected automatically.)
- Communications — support requests, emails, and feedback. (Source: you.)
2.How We Use Information
- Provide, maintain, and secure the Service and your account;
- Process subscriptions and payments and send billing notices and receipts;
- Save, sync, and back up Your Content so you can access your work;
- Respond to support requests and communicate service updates;
- Understand usage to improve features and performance;
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues;
- Comply with legal obligations.
We may create and use aggregated or de-identified data — which cannot reasonably be used to identify you or to reveal the substance of Your Content — to operate, secure, and improve the Service, and we will not attempt to re-identify it. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use the substance of your screenplays to train generative AI models. Scriptline does not currently offer AI or machine-learning features, and we will not use Your Content to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any generative AI model — ours or a third party's — without your prior, opt-in consent.
3.How We Share Information
We share information only as needed:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract, such as Stripe (payment processing), our cloud hosting and storage provider, our transactional email provider, and our product analytics provider. A current list of these subprocessors is available on request at privacy@scriptline.app;
- Legal & safety: when required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect rights, property, and safety;
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
4.Cookies & Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential functions (such as keeping you logged in) and, where enabled, for analytics. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) and similar opt-out preference signals where applicable law requires. Where visitors are located in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction that requires prior consent, we request consent before setting any non-essential cookie.
5.Data Retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, then for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. If your account is terminated or you cancel, we will make Your Content available for export for at least 30 days after termination, after which we may delete it in the ordinary course. When you delete Your Content or close your account, we delete or de-identify associated data within 30 days, except for limited copies retained in routine backups for up to 90 days or as required by law.
6.Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, role-based access controls, and periodic review of our security practices. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and any applicable regulator as required by law. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.
7.Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can manage much of your data in your account settings, or contact us at privacy@scriptline.app to make a request. We will verify your identity before acting and will respond within the time required by applicable law. You may also opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link; we will still send transactional messages such as billing receipts and security notices. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf, subject to verification. If we decline your request, you may appeal that decision by contacting us at privacy@scriptline.app with the subject line "Privacy Appeal," and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or provide a different level of service because you exercised these rights.
8.California Residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended) gives you rights to know, access, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. You will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact privacy@scriptline.app If you are a resident of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon, Montana, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have comparable rights to confirm, access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, and profiling with legal or similarly significant effects. We do not sell or share personal information, engage in targeted advertising, or conduct such profiling. We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by these laws beyond what is necessary to provide the Service, and we do not use or disclose it for any purpose requiring an opt-out or consent. Appeal rights are described in Section 7.
9.Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you must be at least 16 to use the Service, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 in those regions. We also do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact privacy@scriptline.app and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
10.International Users
Scriptline is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal information on the following legal bases: performance of our contract with you (to provide and bill for the Service); our legitimate interests (to secure the Service, prevent fraud, and improve features), balanced against your rights; your consent (for non-essential cookies and any optional processing); and compliance with legal obligations. Where we transfer personal information out of these regions, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum, together with supplementary measures where appropriate. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
11.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice where required.
